This is a must have to understand what color to wear, even though the style of dress and makeup is TOTALLY OUTDATED!!! But for a good laugh.But, this book is essential as far as the technical aspect of choosing color to wear...This book is a great book to understand and enter into the market. I bought the whole series and read them from cover to cover. This is not for the advanced student, but the beginner.I also think that fashion designers should have a thorough understanding of color theory, which is really not taught that much or well. It is also a very complex subject to learn and understand. BUT!!!!! There is hope!!!if you want to know about Color theory to get even better....COLOR WORKS, the crafter Guide to Color by Deb MenzFOR ANYONE who wants to know about Color Theory this test breaks it down so that ANYONE can understand this subject. I learned more about color theory in this book than all others put together because I now "Understand" the concept.While this book is for the textile artist, ALL artists should get it and is also has cut outs to use when choosing your colour palette whether it be for Fashion Design or Art.This book is a MUST HAVE!!!!
I feel every person needs to know what season is theirs. I only wish I could present this to people I know. I know I am a Winter. We can all wear every color, but need to know which shade. I love the book. I had purchased one years ago, and I mean YEARS ago. (I am now 77) and had the swatches, which I gave to one of my granddaughters. I, personally, would love to be able to help people learn their season!!!
I think this is the best book out there, and I probably have them all. What worked for me was to take the 4 Seasons with me when I went shopping. Eventually I was able to train my eye to know what Season I was looking at, regardless of the lighting in the stores. The day I went shopping, looking for a Winter turquoise top, showed me it's value. From the middle of the store, I looked at the women's department, and said, Ahh, they're all Autumn turquoises. Phooey. I never even left the main aisle . It was kind of a disappointment. There was no reason to even browse.I also use this information for interiors. A relative was redoing her home and debating between gray and beige for the living room. She had been told that gray was "in", but she was hesitating. I asked her, do you look good in gray? She said, '"no". Well then, don't use it. You don't want to walk out to greet your guests in an outfit that looks good on you, and sit down in a room in another Season that fights with you and what you are wearing. They need to go together. You want to look good in your own home. (Granted, if you have family, it may not be that simple.)
I ordered this book because i saw a picture of myself in a white dress and compared it with a picture of myself in a bright colored dress. This book is a must and will totally change how you present your best self. And While I agree that the information it presents is timeless, I'm giving it 4 stars because come on, can't the author/editor put out an updated version so that it's a little more relatable? Unless you're still wearing feathered bangs...
I bought this for my early-teens niece so she can figure out her colors and styles appropriate for her coloration and body type. Although the book was written in the 1980s, I consider it a standard reference on the subject matter. And young ladies don't change much either -- they still want to look beautiful. My niece was happy to receive the book and it was clear she was excited about the ideas that can broaden her horizons. I think this book, along with a little shopping money, will go a long way for this young lady. I wish it had been available to me when I was a teenager.
bought 4 of these books for friends. This color analysis changed my life 30 years ago using a personal stylist who used this book. It has tear out color sheets for your pallete (for clothing) to take with for shopping. I can go through a clothing store in 15 minutes...if it's not MY color, I don't even touch the garment.. Now whatever I wear compliments my hair/skin/eyes. I have redecorated my home in MY colors (fall) as well.....all blends and is pleasing.
I read this book when it was new and all the rage, in the early '80s, and I really enjoyed it. Back then for whatever reason I never could figure out for sure what my season was, though. I thought of the book recently and looked to see if it was still available. I was so happy to see that it was being sold on Amazon. I ordered it and read it through almost nonstop! It's a fun and easy read. I don't have any doubt now that I'm a summer! I have clothes shopped once recently and I couldn't believe how easy it was! Once you know your colors you can eliminate what doesn't look best on you and hone in on the right colors. And even better than that, nearly everything you have will coordinate! When I look at the grouping of right colors in my closet, it looks so harmonious, and I truly look and feel better wearing my colors. I highly recommend this book! P.S. If you're worried about the book being dated, it's not. Knowing how to dress yourself properly never goes out of style!
