From Booklist
Mandy Keeling is desperate. She has sold her toy shop, lost her boyfriend, and found out that she is pregnant. In search of a job with health insurance, she experiences a wave of morning sickness in the elevator on the way to an interview. Naturally, Damien Sharpton, known as the "Demon," the man with whom she has an appointment, is in the elevator with her. In spite of this inauspicious beginning, she gets the job and easily conceals her condition since they don't come into contact too often, developing instead, an electronic relationship that leads her to believe that Damien's reputation as an ogre is greatly exaggerated. Since Mandy is the first person to penetrate his tough exterior, he invites her along on a trip to the Caribbean and becomes more enthralled. Things aren't easy once they're back at the office, but love finds a way in this truly wonderful tale. This novel has it all: wit, charm, sensuality, and two of the most enjoyable, fascinating characters around. Readers will treasure McCarthy's unexpectedly tender romance. Pregnancy TestAuthor: Erin McCarthyReview by: Karen MasseeSeptember 10, 2016This is a story about Mandy, a woman who found herself unexpectedly pregnant and in need of a job. With an absentee father, she goes to apply for a job as a personal assistant for Damien Sheraton. Despite throwing up in his trash can due to morning sickness, on her job interview, Damien hires her. Damien finds himself attracted to the beautiful, reserved woman, despite her pregnancy, and fights his desire to claim her for himself.Mandy, at first is simply looking to provide a secure future for herself and her baby, romance has no place in her life. As she gets to know her hard, uncompromising boss, she sees the man underneath the façade. Damien having lost his wife three years earlier due to a tragedy has walled off his heart, afraid to love again… Mandy, having the father of her child turn his back on both of them is afraid to trust again. This book is about that journey from friendship to love. It’s often funny with Damien trying to figure out pregnancy in general, and his role in Mandy’s pregnancy specifically since he’s not the actual father… but has opinions and concerns on just about everything! Mandy is perplexed, because more and more Damien is acting like the father and she is finding that she wishes that he were the father. Throughout the book they become closer, despite their best attempts to keep their emotional distance … in the end will they finally give in to the love they feel?
4.5 Stars. Mandy is pregnant and alone, so she sells her Toy Store and goes on an interview for a job with benefits and regular hours. In an elevator on the way to the interview she is suffering from morning sickness and blurts out to the gorgeous man in the elevator that she's on her way to an interview with an ogre. It of course turns out to be the man she is interviewing with, Damien Sharpton. He hires her as his assistant, and she hides from him for the first two months, working through instant messaging and emails so he won't know she's pregnant. Damien is attracted to her wit and humor and her intelligence so he insists she go with him on a business trip to the Caribbean, where he finds out that she is pregnant. Damien and Mandy get involved and he gets interested and involved in her pregnancy. The book is really funny and the two main characters were a lot of fun and interesting. Damien had a lot to overcome from his past and Mandy was facing her fears of being pregnant and not being sure she knew how to be a mom. Mandy and Damien made me laugh, and the sex was hot. There relationship grows and you get to see how they grow from friendship to more. This was a really fun, entertaining read that I finished in a day. I only wish it was a little bit longer.
Damien Sharpton is an overzealous, OCD, insanely hard working exec that hires (unknown to him, she's pregnant) Mandy Keeling who proceeds to completely change his outlook on life and his life priorities. This is a great light hearted, soul warming, fun book that was a pleasure to read. The plot is simple- pregnant woman works for crazy exec and falls for each other, but it had some interesting add-ons that made it more it fun to read.Erin McCarthy writes the characters and 'grows them' in a way that makes it more interesting to follow. No, this is not a profoundly moving novel that will make you ponder deep thoughts. The characters are strong and extremely likeable. No major character flaws nor major 'misunderstandings' that make you want to pull your hair out. Sorry - I really hate those.Damien takes on Mandy's pregnancy with great excitement and enthusiasm that makes her crazy- but makes me think I found my kids' new daddy! ;-)I enjoyed reading every page of this book. Am always looking for a fun, make me smile book with fun, enjoyable characters that bring out the best in each other.
Mandy Keeling never believed she would find herself in the position of being unemployed, and even worse, pregnant with no one to rely on. She didn't even try to lie to herself about being in love with Ben. When she broke the news of her pregnancy, he had wanted no part of it, and offered her money to make it go away. If he couldn't love her baby, it was over for them. Mandy knew she had to find a way to make a life for herself and the baby, and that meant she had to find a stable job. Her roommate Caroline suggested her employer was looking for a new assistant, but warned her that he was an absolute demon to work for. Mandy didn't care as long as it was a steady job with health insurance.Damien Sharpton couldn't believe he had hired a new assistant that had thrown up in his garbage can during their interview, but he was desperate. He was really surprised that she was turning out to be the best assistant he had ever had. He rarely saw her, and thought she might actually be avoiding being in the same room as he was. Mandy literally ran when she sensed Damien approaching her desk. She had been having very erotic fantasies about her drop dead gorgeous boss, and was afraid he would pick up on it as well as her pregnancy if they were in close proximity. After Damien decided he had enough of her physical absence, he told his beautiful assistant she was to accompany him on a working vacation to the Caribbean. When they arrived in the beautiful locale, it didn't take long for lust to overcome both of them. They both admitted their attraction and agreement that anything that happened between them would end when they got home. Damien was surprised and intrigued when Mandy admitted she was going to have a baby. He suddenly found himself wanting things he knew he had no right to.This was a sweet traditional romance. It is a good weekend read, but not one I would add to my personal library. What should have been an emotionally compelling story, the writing just missed the mark not drawing the reader in completely. Mandy and Damien thought they had met at absolutely the worst possible time. She was trying to get her life together, and be prepared for the baby she would be responsible for shortly. He was trying to forget his painful past unable to move beyond it. What they both failed to realize is that they were much better together than they could ever be apart.
