Review
“There is so much I could say to commend Exploring the Bible, but any praise would pale in comparison to this, the ultimate parental endorsement: I gave all three of my children Exploring the Bible as their very first experience of personal devotions. All three used it, all three enjoyed it, and all three benefited tremendously from using it. I wholeheartedly recommend it for your children, too.â€â€•Tim Challies, blogger, Challies.com“This Bible reading plan has it all―engaging graphics, kid-sized reading assignments, space for reflection, and helpful commentary. What an exciting endeavor―to help children read (for themselves!) an overview of the Bible in a year! I can’t wait to give away copies of Exploring the Bible to the kids in my life.†―Gloria Furman, author, Missional Motherhood and Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full“Too many times children are told about the Bible without ever being encouraged to read the text themselves. In his book Exploring the Bible, David Murray has given a gift to disciple-making parents everywhere. This resource will help children and families dig into the riches of the Bible while subtly teaching the necessity of daily reading and learning with God’s people. I can see individual children using it or whole families sharing their discoveries around the dinner table. As you seek to raise disciples who are hungry for and knowledgeable of the Word, this resource will be invaluable.â€â€•Chap Bettis, author, The Disciple-Making Parent“Exploring the Bible has been carefully crafted. The passages selected, the layout and design, and the opportunities given for children to reflect and respond will work in concert to guide them into an understanding of what the Bible is all about. I hope it is widely used.â€â€•Kenneth Berding, Director, Bible Fluency; Professor of New Testament, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University; author, Bible Revival: Recommitting Ourselves to One Book“Encouragingly brief, carefully chosen passages lead explorers through the main ideas of the entire Bible in 365 days, with captions and questions to sharpen their focus. Wonderful weekly peaks connect the Old and New Testaments, pointing to Jesus, reinforcing the big picture, and urging personal application. This treasure is at the top of my gift list for new Bible explorers!†―Gail Schoonmaker, illustrator, The Big Picture Story Bible; author, Big Picture Bible Crafts“Without guidance and a plan, children will flounder when trying to read and understand the Bible on their own. That’s why resources like David Murray’s book are so important. I don’t even want to imagine what my Christian life and my ministry would have been without the encouragement and structure for daily Bible reading I received as a child. But if I’d had something like Exploring the Bible, I think my scriptural foundations would have been even stronger.â€â€•Donald S. Whitney, Professor of Biblical Spirituality and Associate Dean, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; author, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life and Praying the Bible“An important, but often neglected, part of the education we provide for our children is instruction in the actual contents of the Bible. We give our children math flashcards and grammar workbooks, we enroll them in music lessons and put them on sports teams, but we often don’t know where to begin to teach them what’s in the Bible. Exploring the Bible will get elementary-school-aged children started reading Scripture on their own, giving them a grasp of its overall big picture as they read.â€â€•Starr Meade, author, Training Hearts, Teaching Minds; The Most Important Thing You’ll Ever Study; and Give Them Truth

I started this bible study a few months ago with my 2nd grader. It is composed of 6 lessons for each week, and it has a section to complete sermon notes for Sunday. It takes 5-10 minutes to complete each day, and she is able to do it independently. The lessons within the study do not have interpretation or explanations (which I love!). It simply takes FANTASTIC chronological and methodical steps through the Bible by following the major characters and themes. I use it with the NIrV version of the Bible, so that my child can read the verses independently. I sit alongside and make sure that she understands what she has read, and then there is one question from the reading each day. I honestly think this should be tweaked into a Bible study for adults who were not raised knowing the basic stories of the Bible. This study is fantastic! It would truly be a blessing (for it is not burdensome) for any child who has an adult interested in leading them through it.
Just what I was looking for for my sons! I've found most children's Bibles and curriculum simply attach moralistic lessons to well-known Bible stories. This book on the other hand, encourages kids to read the Bible for themselves and provides basic questions to point them to the overarching redemptive narrative found in Scripture. If you're looking for an entertaining Christian comic book replacement, this probably isn't for you. However, if you're looking for a great tool for encouraging your kids to dig in to the truths of the Bible for themselves, I highly recommend this book!
What a fabulous resource! This is a beautiful book that will be perfect for my daughter to read the Bible on her own.
I got this for my daughter to get into the habit of reading the Bible daily. The lessons are very short, which is good for her (8 years old) and there is a place on Sunday for her to take notes on the sermon. We've extended her bedtime so that she can do the devotional, so she's extra excited about it.
I would highly recommend this reading plan for kids. It is easy to follow and doesn't require reading more than 5 or 6 scriptures a day. To demonstrate to my children's church class (small class 6 kids ages 9-13) how easy it is, we went through the entire week of reading in one class. I think they were relieved to find out it didn't take too long.this is a great tool to inspire kids to read their Bible.
I bought one for each of my kids (ages 7, 9, 11) to start this summer. It gets them opening their Bibles every day. It's quick, but a great tool to develop what will hopefully become a lifelong habit. Once a week we review what they have done and look over the intro for the next week. I would highly recommend this!!!
I love this book! I am not great about reading it daily, but my kids are memorizing the weekly verse and learning about the Bible. It really doesn't take long to do each lesson so we usually do it as a family during dinner. We haven't gotten through the whole book yet but this far in I highly recommend it!
I've really enjoyed using this as a resource to help with family worship. The kids have really engaged with prayer and Bible study. This is helpful to use for early childhood christian discipleship.
